Viability test of compressed air engine completed

"The 1st section of this programme - proof of the technical concept in Tata Motors vehicles - has currently been successfully completed with the compressed air engine concept having been demonstrated in 2 Tata Motors vehicles," the corporate said in an exceedingly statement.

The development assumes significance as no operating prototype of the compressed air engine has been developed up to now. The compressed air engine uses the force of expanding compressed air to power the pistons within an engine or is employed in different non-conventional ways that in hybrid and electrical cars.The company had partnered with Motor Development International of Luxembourg in January 2007 to supply and sell compressed air cars using MDI technology in India.


The agreement is to be completed in 2 sections encompassing technology transfer and proof of the technical concept within the 1st phase, and finishing detailed development of the compressed air engine into specific vehicle and stationary applications within the second section.


"In the second section of the event, the 2 firms are operating along to finish detailed development of the technology and needed technical processes to industrialise a market prepared product application over the approaching years." (IANS)
