Mick McCarthy sets Wolves a 38-point

The Wolverhampton Wanderers manager, Mick McCarthy, has set his side a 38-point survival target as he looks for his side to recover from their "unacceptable" performance against Liverpool in tomorrow's away match against QPR.
McCarthy came in for significant criticism after the 3-0 midweek loss against the Reds extended their run without a win within the Premier League to nine games.
He is aware of Wolves need to tighten up defensively after a lot of evident errors that were exploited by Kenny Dalglish's side, but is refusing to press the panic button. It could lead to a debut for the on-loan Tottenham defender Sébastien Bassong, who signed solely minutes before the transfer window closed on Tuesday.
"I thought, with eighteen games to play, if we could get twenty one points out of it from where we were, to take us to thirty eight, that would be a good tally, McCarthy said. "That continues to be potential to try to to. Is it getting to be enough? i feel it will be as a result of i feel it will be a coffee tally that stays up.
"But they are all key games, starting with QPR on Saturday. no one wants to be within the bottom three at any time. The lads are hurting. but I said to them there is no panic here. We've been in this position before. If you begin panicking, start doing one thing radical or different, the lads suppose without delay 'panic stations' but we aren't into that."
McCarthy admitted: "That [against Liverpool] was as unhealthy a performance as we've had home or away. it absolutely was dire within the second [*fr1] and fans expect better than that. but i do know fortunes will change therefore quickly. It happened to us last year on a number of occasions.
"We went to Bolton and it absolutely was like the end of the planet and then we came here and beat Manchester United. i do know how quickly it will spin. that is why i don't get too down and am invariably filled with optimism."
McCarthy is filled with praise for his goalkeeper, Wayne Hennessey, who has been in fine type this season despite his blunder handing Liverpool their second goal.
"Wayne was fabulous within the first [*fr1] and has been excellent for us. we won't keep looking forward to Wayne Hennessey and that we need to be better in front of him," he said. "The rest of us need to do a lot of. there is no blame attached to Wayne. we've got to defend better with the players we have got and not look elsewhere and purpose fingers at who is guilty. We've not got any mugs within the place, we've got to try to to better. All we will do is crack on with it."
McCarthy admits he relishes the challenges as a manager despite the rollercoaster nature of the work.
"I've got such a large amount of of my buddies who surprise why I do it and raise if I could get a wise job as a window cleaner or an insurance salesman," he said. "As a manager you undergo the range of emotions. i have been doing it for pretty much 20 years now. If you don't wish to need to travel through it, then get out."
