The Telegraph says they have had an initial bid for Morrison rejected when Manchester United reluctantly place their vastly proficient 18 year-old up for sale.
United are trying to secure a buying deal during this transfer window.
Newcastle have made the first bid – in the region of £500,000 – which United turned down last weekend.
United are seeking a higher fee as well as a clause that may give them a significant share of any future sale.
